Nearly 113,000 Kentuckians filed for unemployment last week as the coronavirus pandemic continues to take its toll on the economy.
Nationwide, some 6.6 million Americans submitted new jobless claims during the week ending on March 28, the second week in a row that numbers reached record highs.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, the previous weekly record for the country was 695,000, set in October 1982.
In Kentucky, the number of workers who submitted an initial claim for unemployment benefits reached 112,726 last week. That’s up from 49,023 the week before, a short-lived record.
