A Democratic voter is challenging the Republican candidate in the upcoming special election for House 67, charging that she does not actually live in the district.
In a motion filed today in Campbell Circuit Court, voter Jim Cole has asked that Mary Jo Wedding be enjoined from running as the Republican candidate in the February 25th special election, and that the Secretary of State and the State Board of Elections remove her from the ballot.
According to the motion filed by Anna Whites on behalf of Cole, Wedding listed an address on her election filing that is within the 67th House district, in the city of Bellevue. However, other records, including her business filing with the state, show an address in Falmouth as her residence. Falmouth is outside district 67.
In addition, the motion alleges that Wedding has listed multiple other addresses on various forms and on social media, none of which are in the district where she is a candidate.
The motion concludes that Wedding has not resided in the district for the one year required by state law, and therefore is not a qualified candidate. It further asks that the court hold an immediate hearing on this motion.
