Ending months of speculation and discussion, Matt Jones of KY Sports Radio announced today that he is not going to run for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in 2020.
After having to leave the radio show due to perceived conflicts between the show and his exploratory committee (as well as having to leave his television show), Jones appeared on KSR to state that even after the support he had received across the state, he determined that he would not run.
Jones had been rumored to be running for months. His departure leaves the current field at four: Amy McGrath, who has raised the most money by far; Mike Broihier, whose launch video created a stir; state Rep. Charles Booker, who announced this week he was forming an exploratory committee; and Steven Cox. There is still some speculation that House Minority Leader Rocky Adkins could enter the race, but after Andy Beshear’s election as governor there is a possibility that Adkins could wind up in Beshear’s cabinet.
