Members of Louisville’s Metro Council need to be situation-aware tonight, as they meet to vote on a “buffer zone” in front of the EMW Women’s Center. And if they see cracks in the walls or ceilings, they need to run outside as fast as they are able, before the building falls on them.
The proposed ordinance would create a 10-foot-wide clear space in front of all healthcare facilities in the city – including the Women’s Clinic, an abortion provider that is the site of frequent protests and an ongoing presence of anti-abortion protesters. According to Spectrum News, more than 50% of patients at the clinic reported a challenge getting into the clinic due to the protesters. So, Metro Council is voting to set up the buffer zone in an attempt to balance the free-speech rights of the protesters with the access to health care for the patients.
So why, pray tell, do the members of Metro Council need to keep their eyes on the ceiling during their meeting, and watch for cracks in the walls?
Because Frank Simon’s so-called “American Family Association” is planning a “Jericho walk” around City Hall as Metro Council is meeting.
The press release states that the “Jericho walk” will begin at 5:45 PM in front of City Hall. Unfortunately, some details interested people need to know are not included in the release:
- If they want to work according to the original Jericho plan, they need to march around City Hall once today, and again once every day for the next five days (a total of six days), and then march around City Hall seven times on the seventh day. Are they going to do that?
- In the original plan, the marchers said not a word while marching on the six days. Are the AFA marchers also going to be silent?
- Who’s bringing the shofars?
Not sure if Frank Simon thinks he is Joshua reincarnated – but I am pretty sure that this “Jericho walk” will have much less impact than calls to Metro Council members would have.
And by the way – do not assume you know how I feel about God, or the Bible, or even abortion, by what I have written in this piece.
But if you think you know how I feel about Frank Simon’s organization and this stunt, you are probably correct.
