Here are the major bills that moved during today’s session:
- HB 1 – passes House 70-23. Allows businesses and schools to reopen during the pandemic as long as they follow CDC guidelines, even if their reopening is against the governor’s orders. Now goes to the Senate.
- HB 2 – passes House 75-18. Gives Attorney General more authority to regulate abortion on his own, including filing criminal charges, without first requiring a request from Health and Human Services. Goes to the Senate.
- HB 3 – passes House 69-24. Would move cases against the state out of Franklin Circuit Court and into three special courts set up in regions across the state. Dems say it will be struck down in court. Goes to the Senate.
- HB 4 – passes House 77-16. Moves out the closing days for the legislature to meet, allows them to add 10 days to their session each month through the end of the year. Goes to the Senate.
- HB 5 – passes House 73-22. Prevents a governor from doing temporary reorganizations of executive branch departments and boards, such as Bevin did with the state Board of Education. Goes to the Senate.
- SB 1 – passes Senate 27-9. Limits governor’s executive orders. Goes to the House.
- SB 2 – passes Senate 31-6. Limits governor’s emergency regulations. Goes to the House.
- SB 3 – passes Senate 29-9. Moves certain agriculture funding and development organizations from the governor’s office to the Department of Agriculture. Goes to the House.
- SB 9 – passes Senate 32-4. The so-called “born alive” bill, which requires medical professionals to provide care to any baby born alive. Goes to the House.
