A member of the KY Republican Party staff stated on his Twitter account that “equity is a threat to society.”
Jake Cox (@GOPJake), who is the Director of Research and Digital Strategy at Republican Party of Kentucky according to his Linked In page, made the comment in reply to a tweet by reporter Olivia Krauth, who covered the JCPS school board meeting where protesters complained about “critical race theory” being taught in Jefferson County schools, even though it isn’t.
Krauth was quoting a school board member who said, after the meeting, “I think what we saw this evening is the outgrowth of pervasive misinformation.” Some hear “equity,” he said, and hear “a threat to their existence.”

The courts of this state have been equity courts going back to common law days.
Equity is a foundational premise of our country.

Colmon Elridge, the chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party, issued this statement in response:
“Equity is not a threat to our society; it is a founding principle of our nation, and one we have yet to fully achieve. Just days after Juneteenth, a staffer for the Republican Party of Kentucky is expressing a view that was held by the very same people who refused to tell the slaves that they were free or allow them to be free. Our state and our nation will not go backwards in the ways The Republican Party of Kentucky wants us to. The Republican Party of Kentucky is no longer the party of Lincoln; they are the party of Proud Boys.”
