Our three photographers — Del Ramey, Nick Lacy, and Berry Craig — have been doing what photographers do: taking pictures. So, we thought we would gather some of their work to show the effects of the coronavirus across Kentucky. With Nick in Danville, Del in Louisville, and Berry in Mayfield, their pictures show the commonality of the impact, and our shared response.
Shutting Down
All across the state, things are closing: churches, parks, businesses. Sometimes, the effects can be dramatic.
Seeing the Effects
As people begin to hunker down and stay home, the effects can be seen all over – but especially in the traffic and the stores.
Social Distancing
A new term has entered our vocabulary: “social distancing.” Most people have gotten the picture (though not all). Most stores, too, have implemented social distancing of their own.
Adapting
Following the lead of our governor, Kentuckians are adapting. They are figuring out how to keep going during these times, and they are adopting that can-do spirit that is going to get us through this. And, a little humor sometimes doesn’t hurt.
And a special call-out
In the midst of this pandemic, it can be especially hard to keep a non-profit going … and even harder when your funding model is “pay what you can.” The Grace Cafe in Danville is the Commonwealth’s first pay-what-you-can restaurant, is working hard to keep their mission going: “ending hunger in our community by providing access to delicious, fresh, locally sourced, nutritious food for everyone in our community regardless of their ability to pay.” If you want to learn more, or support their work, visit their web site at GraceCafeKY.org.
