The Indivisible group in western Kentucky, Indivisible Four Rivers, has put up another billboard in Padacuh, this timing raising support for HR1, the “For the People Act.”
The U.S. House bill, House Resolution 1, along with its matching bill in the Senate SR1, would be the most sweeping voting rights legislation since the Voting Rights Act of 1964. It would expand early voting, limits purging of voter rolls, expands voting by mail, and requires states to provide enough polling locations that no voter has to stand in line longer than 30 minutes.
A key provision of the bill is that the drawing of legislative districts based on the census would be done by a non-partisan commission in each state, rather than by the ruling parties.
HR1 has already passed the House, but will not pass the Senate unless Democrats get rid of the filibuster.
Indivisible Four Rivers is one of the most active Indivisible groups in Kentucky, and as a result of their ongoing activism, their membership has grown from 40 to 80 to 120.
