Here is a list of steps to take and deadlines to take them so you can vote in the June primary. In addition, we’ve got other information, and a timeline of overall events. Please share widely (use those sharing buttons!) so we get a good “turn-out” in this first sorta-vote-by-mail election!
Steps and deadlines
- You can still register to vote, if you do it by Tuesday, May 26. (GoVoteKY.com)
- Be sure to check your registration before then as well, just to make sure it is correct. (GoVoteKY.com)
- Everyone can request an absentee ballot, but you have to do so by June 15.
- You can request it from your county clerk’s office. Use this list to find your county clerk.
- There should also be an online portal where you can request it. Watch for an announcement about that later this month.
- You should get a postcard by May 22 explaining all of this and reminding you to ask for your absentee ballot if you want one. If you don’t get a postcard, it means your voter registration is incorrect, and you need to go to http://GoVoteKY.com to fix it.
General information
- The 2020 Primary Election is Tuesday, June 23, 2020.
- You will have to either have voted or have returned your absentee ballot by 6 PM local time that day. If it is postmarked for that day, it will count.
- You may register to vote in Kentucky as a 17-year-old if you will be 18 years old by the General Election on November 3, 2020.
- There will be minimal in-person voting starting in early June. You can make an appointment to vote, but it is not mandatory.
- Note that because of reduced in-person voting, your regular voting location may not be open. If you plan on voting on Election Day, you will need to find out where to do so.
