We have had a number of comments and questions about absentee ballots, with people concerned that they had requested one and hadn’t received it yet.
So, we reached out to the Jefferson County Board of Elections to get an update on how things were going there (since they surely have the largest number of absentee ballot requests).
Here’s the response we got back from Nore Ghibaudy, the director of public relations for the Jefferson County Clerk’s office:
This morning (9.29) Jefferson County Clerk’s Office is up to 108,498 requests waiting to be processed, and 23,120 ballots marked as issued. We received 4,670 new requests yesterday.
The Portal opened August 29th. Ballots were printed on Sept. 19th. They could not be created or printed until the Federal submissions for being on the ballot were supplied. Jefferson county has 1400 different ballot styles for the General Election.
Last Thursday and Friday, as well as through the weekend, all offices were closed including the Election Center headquarters on the 3rd floor of the new Edison Building due to community unrest. We are back on schedule working through to evenings, with 12 hour shifts and weekends. Please let your readers know to be patient.
So, in Jefferson County at least, they had sent out about 20% of the ballots requested as of Monday. Still a long way to go, but they’re making progress.
