A group known as Kentucky United is planning a “Second Amendment Rally” in Frankfort this Tuesday, before the 2020 General Assembly begins.
A post on the group’s Facebook page says:
A statewide movement known as Kentucky United, has announced a rally to be held on January 7, 2020, from 9am until 3pm EST, on the grounds of the state capital at 700 Capital Avenue Frankfort, Kentucky.
This “Rally to Protect Our Rights” is in response to recent proposed gun legislation that seeks to usurp the will of We The People.
Kentucky United is a peaceful, party-neutral grassroots organization, comprised of Kentuckians and other Americans from all walks of life, in solidarity against tyranny in the face of freedom.
Since our inception on December 10, 2019, Kentucky United has seen its membership grow at a rate of 3,000 new members per day, including to-date, 85 of 120 counties in the Bluegrass State becoming affiliates. We have led efforts to make each Kentucky county a 2nd Amendment sanctuary, and watched in appreciation as Harlan County became the first of many, so far, to do so.
Kentucky United extends an invitation to all Americans to join in the fight to protect our God-given rights.
The Facebook description of the event says “We will be rallying at the state capitol to defend our 2nd Amendment rights and constitutional rights. Staging and parking will be at 8 a.m. from the parking area the Frankfort PD giving of a slow roll escort 0.4 miles up to the Capitol Building @9am 104 east 4th st large lot behind VfW.”
There is some discussion under the event as to whether the attendees will be armed, and whether to do open or concealed carry. A few people have mentioned bringing so-called “long rifles,” but others have discouraged that, saying it presents an image that plays into anti-gun “propaganda.”
Elsewhere on the Kentucky United page, there is a mission and rules for the group:
Kentucky United Mission: To educate, organize, and unite the citizens of Kentucky as pertaining to their 2nd Amendment and Constitutional Rights and to oppose any Bill Request, resolution, or proclamation that would hinder those rights.
Rules of Kentucky United:

- You will at all times remain courteous to other members. (name calling will not be tolerated.)
- At no time will any member bash a party affiliation, religion, or race!
- Off-topic items will not be approved.
- While militia members are welcomed, no talk of militia or militarization of this group will be allowed. Militia members may not use this group as a recruiting platform. Kentucky United IS NOT A MILITIA MOVEMENT NOR WILL EVER BE!
- Displaying of personal firearms, inventory check, ammo etc. is not allowed.
- Threats of violence against anyone will not be tolerated.
- These rules apply to all sub groups on county and township level. If these are not adhered to then the group will no longer have any affiliation with Kentucky United.
We have reached out to the leader of the event, John Cartwright, with some questions, but have not heard back. We have also reached out to the Kentucky State Police, as there was some question about the event attendees going inside the Capitol while armed, but have not heard back from KSP. If we do, we will update this story.
