Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes issued her official turnout prediction for the upcoming statewide election, setting it at 31% of registered voters. But she encourages Kentucky voters to prove her wrong.
Grimes uses the rate of absentee ballot requests as the basis for the prediction. The 31% turnout would be very slightly higher than the 2015 turnout of 30.7%.
In the statement put out by her office, Grimes notes:
It’s simply not ok that only a small portion of Kentuckians will possibly elect our next constitutional officers. Our democracy depends on people showing up to the polls to make their voices heard. I challenge all registered voters to get up, get out, and get loud, and exercise their right to vote on Tuesday.
She goes on to encourage voters to prepare to vote by checking their polling place and their registration at GoVoteKY.com.
