Paul Wesslund is a long-time contributor to Forward Kentucky, but you haven’t seen his byline recently. That’s because he took time off from writing for us to write a unique book about a family, a restaurant, and the impact both had.
The book is Small Business, Big Heart, and it tells the story of Sal and Cindy Rubino and the restaurant they founded, The Cafe. (If you live in Louisville, you’ve probably eaten there.) The thing that makes the restaurant unique is that Sal and Cindy decided to hire refugees and individuals in recovery as their staff.
The book tells of some rocky early times, some tough choices, and many changed lives, including those of the Rubinos and their family.

The book is now in print and available, and to launch it, Paul is holding a “virtual launch party” on Wednesday, September 16th, at 5:30 pm. It will be broadcast directly from The Cafe via Facebook Live, and moderated by Rev. Jason Crosby, the senior pastor at Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
