As part of his pledge of transparency, Governor Andy Beshear today released his tax returns for 2019, and called on other office holders to do the same.
In a press release from his office, Beshear said, “Elected officials must earn the public’s trust and demonstrate that they aren’t beholden to any special interests. Kentuckians deserve to know their leaders aren’t indebted to those whose interests are in conflict with those of the people of the commonwealth.”
The Beshear federal and state tax returns, filed jointly with his wife, Britainy, shows income from his service as attorney general for most of the year, and then from serving as governor. It also shows that they are still paying off some student loans.
The released documents also include the 2019 financial disclosure form, which must be filed by June 15 of each year.
Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman will release her 2019 returns when they are filed later in the coming weeks.
Transparency additions to web site
In the same press release, Beshear announced that his office had added a section to the official governor’s website including the acronym WHERE for the priorities he had laid out for his administration: Wages, Health Care, Education, Retirement and Example. The Example section (leading by example) includes a discussion of Transparency, which is where the tax return link is located.
Also in that transparency section is a link to a separate page showing the logs of flights using the state aircraft.
