Christy Brown, the well-known philanthropist and activist, has circulated a letter to Senator Mitch McConnell asking him to use his “extraordinary power and relationships to facilitate the immediate removal of Donald Trump from the office of President.”
In her email to persons on her extensive email list, she opened with the following personal note:
I hope we can all inspire hundreds to write letters to our representatives – we must go on the record letting the world know we expect more from Mitch McConnell, VP Pence and all leadership.

Dear Senator McConnell, It has become evident that President Donald J. Trump is a desperate man willing to do nearly anything to stay in power. He demanded that his vice president defy his Constitutional duty. He sent a mob to desecrate America’s most sacred building. He refused to send in the National Guard to defend it. It is clear that this is not merely posturing for political sway in a post-presidency. His closest allies and aides have had to “beg” him to refrain from resorting to dangerous breaches of democracy and security. In the next two weeks, we face a grave risk of additional abuses of presidential power. He is still the commander in chief of our armed forces. He is still authorized to order a nuclear strike. He still controls the major levers of our system of justice. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of five million Kentuckians and 330 million Americans, we citizens who have actively supported political candidates from this commonwealth on both sides of the aisle, are sending you an urgent plea from home to use your extraordinary power and relationships to facilitate the immediate removal of Donald Trump from the office of President. In doing this, we join dozens of Members of Congress, the National Council of Churches, the National Association of Manufacturers, … among so many others. Why can’t we simply wait for his presumed departure on January 20th? Because, as any risk assessment professional in the military, business or finance would advise when facing the possibility of a doomsday scenario, it is imperative to mitigate any path to that outcome.
