RPK, FOP post attacks via tweet – then take them down. (But we’ve got them anyway.)

Today, both the Republican Party of Kentucky AND the KY Fraternal Order of Police posted tweets attacking teachers and the UK basketball team – and them took down the tweets after being called out for them.

But, “things live forever on the internet.” So thanks to some enterprising folks who took screen shots of the tweets, we can share them with you now.

RPK comes after teachers

Via the Kentucky Democratic Party, we got a screen capture of this tweet from the state Republican party, which uses the Twitter handle @KYGOP:

FOP comes after UK basketball

Like many sports teams, the men’s basketball team at the University of Kentucky is speaking out about racism, racial violence, and police brutality aimed at persons of color. With Coach Calipari’s support, the team released a two-minute video expressing their feelings about these issues. Here is that video.

As you can imagine, some fans of UK basketball were not happy about the team speaking out (although many were both proud and supportive). In fact, any number of fans responded either with racist rhetoric, or by bragging that they were returning their season tickets. (Don’t read the responses on Twitter unless you are ready to bathe in racism.)

There was one well-known person, though, who posted her own tweet in support:

But then, the KY State FOP decided to post their own response via Twitter, which was captured by reporter Joe Sonka:

After Joe Sonka posted the deleted tweet, reporter and political commentator Phillip Bailey picked up the conversation:

The phrase “what was a well respected program” did not sit well with Big Blue Nation. Neither did the tweet, nor the racism that it seemed to express.
