In the midst of the pandemic, much has gotten put on the back burner, in our minds if not in real life. And yet, some of these things have to happen, virus or no virus. One of those things is selecting our state’s delegates to the Democratic national convention.
Normally, this is done alongside the reorganization process of the Kentucky Democratic Party, which takes place in presidential election years. That process, though, has been postponed until 2021. So, how are we choosing our delegates?
Basically, through online voting. Starting next Monday, June 8, a voting portal will be open on the KDP web site where you will be able to vote for a certain number of delegates from your congressional district. There will be delegate nominees who want to be delegates for Joe Biden, and delegate nominees who want to represent Bernie Sanders. How many of each get to go will be determined by the results of the primary. So, you vote for delegates now, and the top vote-getters in each district will get to represent their candidate at the convention.
BUT … you have to register THIS week to vote NEXT week.
All Kentucky Democrats who are eligible to vote in the primary are also eligible to vote in the delegate selection election. (Heh.) But in order to do so, you have to sign up with KDP now to have access to the online voting portal next week.
SO, hike your web browser over to https://action.kydems.org/page/s/ky-delegate-selection-voting and sign up to vote for delegates next week.
We will have a larger story on this next week, but wanted to get this word out now. Be part of the process; go sign up!
