Back in the dark ages when I was in school, you needed a 65% or better to pass. Based on that, Kentucky is still failing at the census.

Oh I know, Governor Beshear likes to talk about how we’re in 13th place and trying to move up into the top ten. But that’s because he’s grading on a curve. When you look at the raw numbers, we are still suck at the Census – and parts of the state REALLY suck.

Below is the official response map from the Census Bureau, showing total census response rates by county. (Adair gets the call-out because they’re the first county, alphabetically.) You can hover over a county to see their numbers, or select a county in the dropdown at the right and see that county’s response rate over time.

Remember, you don’t HAVE to do this online. You can call 844-330-2020 (844-468-2020 for Spanish-speaking) and complete it over the phone. It takes about ten minutes, and it helps bring money to your county. So get with the program, Kentucky!

And hey, elected leaders – what are YOU doing to get the people in your county to complete the census?
