U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath today launched a statewide initiative to match healthy Kentuckians with those needing help and support during the current coronavirus crisis.
The website, called “Commonwealth, Common Health,” allows anyone over 18 who has a valid driver’s license and meets other background requirements sign up. They will then be matched with persons in their community who are over 55, immunocompromised, or living with someone who is immunocompromised, and help them acquire supplies like food and household items. The site also allows those who need financial assistance to apply for help, and local food banks can sign up to help meet local needs.
From the press release, quoting McGrath:
“The spread of the coronavirus has upended everyday life for all of us. With no clear timeline on how long the impact will continue, it’s important for community members to come together and support our elderly and those whose health is compromised. For those of us who are healthy and unencumbered, it’s a time to prioritize the most vulnerable, not just in our thoughts, but also actions.”
The press release also notes that the McGrath campaign has suspended events and in-person voter contact to help curb the spread of the virus, and is re-purposing staff and volunteers to implement the “Commonwealth, Common Health” initiative.
