We’ve gotten some comments and emails about the Ditch Mitch Fund seeming to already have made Amy McGrath the winner of next year’s primary, even though other persons are either already running or considering running. Subject lines such as “We’re emailing to ask if you can give again to help Amy McGrath defeat Mitch McConnell” naturally lead to such questions.

It’s true that McGrath has a substantial campaign fund already (way, way ahead of anyone else), and continues to raise lots of money; but, one candidate just got into the race, and voters are convinced, not bought.

So, we reached out to Ryan Aquilina, the founder of the Ditch Mitch Fund, with a simple question: If McGrath is not the candidate next year, will the Fund support the eventual Democratic nominee?

Here’s what he sent back to us:

We are an organization solely dedicated to defeating Mitch McConnell, and we plan to support 100% whoever is the Democratic nominee against Mitch. The Ditch Mitch Fund’s resources will be used to do the exact same thing no matter who wins the primary: Support the Democratic nominee and defeat McConnell.

He also noted that they are already spending – not in support of any candidate, but AGAINST McConnell. They’re already up on TV in Kentucky, for example, with an ad that does not mention any Dem candidates, but instead talks about McConnell working for himself and not for Kentucky.

So, for anyone wondering if the Ditch Mitch Fund is playing favorites, it seems that worry is misplaced. Ryan Aquilina and the Fund are working for the same thing we all are: helping Mitch McConnell enjoy his retirement.
