Dr. Gerald Friedman, professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts, will deliver two free lectures in Louisville on “The Economic Case for Medicare for All,” with a sub-title of “who and what will be covered and how will we pay for it?”
Both talks will be on Thursday, October 24th, with the first talk at West Chestnut Baptist Church (1725 W. Chestnut) at noon, and the second talk at First Unitarian Church (809 South 4th) at 7:00 pm.
Friedman became nationally known in 2016 after doing an analysis of Bernie Sanders’s policies and concluding that enacting those policies would produce significant economic growth in the United States. A number of economists took issue with his analysis, while others defended it as accurate. Part of his analysis was of Sanders’s “Medicare for All” proposal. Friedman has written extensively on funding for a single-payer system, and has testified about his work in U.S. Senate committee hearings.
Dr. Friedman will also speak to medical students and health professionals at the University of Louisville on October 23 and 24th, including a talk on “Medicare for All – What physicians need to know.” More information on these events is available at the Kentucky Single Payer website.
