State Rep. Tim Moore, a champion of pro-life issues and a voice for veterans, has resigned his legislative seat.
Moore, a Republican from Elizabethtown, announced his decision by citing his opposition to a system that embraces career politicians.
“I have long believed in term limits as a worthy ideal of government service,” Moore wrote. “Now, having served over 12 years in the Kentucky Legislature, much prayer has led me to realize it is time to apply that principle to myself.”
Moore also said increased responsibility in his Christian ministry work have expanded and he has chosen to resign effective today.
“I am confident that other Kentuckians will rise to serve in a selfless manner, steering us through unforeseen challenges and seizing new opportunities as they arise,” he said in an email.
Moore represents the 18th House District, which covers all of Grayson County and a sliver of Hardin County. He began his service in the House in 2007 from a district which then much of the northern half of Hardin County.
All House seats are two-year terms. The race is scheduled to be on the primary and general election ballots in 2020.
Meanwhile, Gov. Matt Bevin’s office released this statement:
“Gov. Matt Bevin today executed a writ of election to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignation (effective Sept. 10, 2019) of Rep. Tim Moore, who has represented Grayson County and part of Hardin County in the General Assembly.
“The special election to fill the Kentucky House of Representatives 18th District seat will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.”
